Deferred Membership
If you are vested with five years of County (or combined County and reciprocal system) service credit and terminate employment prior to meeting the minimum age requirement, you will be placed on deferred membership status.
Your retirement contributions will remain on deposit and continue to earn interest until you retire. (You can elect to withdraw your deferred contributions and interest at any time, but by doing so, you will forfeit all rights to future retirement benefits from LACERA.)
If you are a deferred, vested Safety Plan A or B member, you can apply to receive your retirement allowance when you meet one of the following conditions:
- At age 50, if you have reached the date you would have accrued 10 years of County (or combined County and reciprocal system) service credit had you remained in full-time service.
- At any age, if you have reached the date you would have accrued 20 years of County (or combined County and reciprocal system) service credit had you remained in full-time service.
Important: Keep LACERA informed of address changes while you are on deferred status by contacting us or updating your my LACERA profile.
See more about terminating service in your online plan book.
