Member Contribution Rates Are Changing July 1

Published on 5.2.2023 in Announcements

On May 2, 2023, the Board of Supervisors adopted changes to contribution rates for LACERA plan sponsors (employers) and active members (employees), as recommended by LACERA in accordance with Government Code Section 31454. LACERA’s Board of Investments approved these new contribution rates on March 8, 2023.

New contribution rates for LACERA active members will go into effect July 1, 2023. Changes to your contribution rates depend upon your retirement plan, as described below. Your contribution rate is a percentage of your compensation, paid semimonthly through automatic payroll deductions.

(Don’t know your plan? Find it on your My LACERA dashboard.)

New Rates: General Plan G and Safety Plan C

General Plan G and Safety Plan C contribution rates are flat-rate percentages for all members and will increase as follows. For more information about how your plan’s contribution rates are calculated, click on your plan link below.

  • Plan G members: from 9.08 to 9.24 percent
  • Safety C members: from 14.33 to 14.76 percent

New Rates: General Plans A, B, C, D, and Safety Plans A and B

Contribution rates for the following legacy plans depend on your entry age into the retirement system. Click on your plan center link below to look up your upcoming contribution rate change.

  • General Plan A
  • General Plan B
  • General Plan C
  • General Plan D
  • Safety Plan A
  • Safety Plan B

Your updated rate will also be reflected on your My LACERA dashboard after it goes into effect.

Why and When Rates Are Adjusted

Contribution formulas for employers and employees are established by law, and contribution rates are updated regularly based on actuarial methods and assumptions that project the retirement system’s ability to pay for future benefits. See How Rates Are Set for additional details.

Rates are adjusted:

  • Annually for employers and members of General Plan G and Safety Plan C
  • Generally every three years for members of General Plans A, B, C, D, and Safety Plans A and B
