The County offers a Medicare reimbursement program, subject to annual review and approval by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors.
On December 5, 2023, the Board of Supervisors approved to continue the 2024 Medicare Part B Premium Reimbursement Program for eligible retirees/survivors and their eligible dependents.
Current enrollment in Medicare Parts A and B and a LACERA-administered Medicare HMO plan or Medicare Supplement plan will qualify you for the County’s Medicare Part B Premium Reimbursement Program. The County reimburses members and/or their eligible dependents for Medicare Part B premiums (up to the standard rate only as set by Social Security) on a tax-free basis, provided they meet the following requirements:
- Enrolled in a LACERA-administered Medicare Supplement Plan or Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan
- Paying for their Medicare Part B premium themselves
- Not being reimbursed for their Medicare Part B premium by another agency, such as another employer or state
Annual Program Verification Notice
The Medicare Part B Premium Reimbursement Program is contingent upon approval by the County Board of Supervisors on an annual basis.
If the Board of Supervisors approves continuing the Medicare Part B reimbursement program, you will receive an Annual Medicare Part B Premium Reimbursement Program Notice from LACERA, listing the acceptable documentation from Social Security or Medicare for proof of the Part B premium amount, with instructions on how to submit verification and the timeline. Upon completion of verification, the Part B reimbursement will be processed accordingly. For Tier 1, the reimbursement is for up to two qualifying parties (the retiree and their eligible dependent). For Tier 2, the reimbursement applies to the qualifying retiree or survivor only.
